About Us
The Brook Run Neighborhood Association (BRNA) was founded in 2008 by a group of residents who wished to join forces with neighbors to improve the overall quality of life at Brook Run. In February 2009, the association was formally recognized by the City of Des Moines as the 53rd neighborhood association within the city. The BRNA serves the Brook Run Village neighborhood, defined as the community existing between NE 38th Avenue and Stream Side Circle from the north and south, and between East 53rd Court and East 49th Street on the east and west. The BRNA is a non-profit organization working for the common good and general welfare of Brook Run residents, with a focus on creating a sense of community and pride within the neighborhood. Our organization provides resources for residents to celebrate and promote the neighborhood through special events and activities, civic betterment efforts and enhanced communication. A primary goal of the BRNA is to give Brook Run residents an active voice in the future of the neighborhood by working closely with the City of Des Moines, Polk County, the Brook Run Homeowner’s Association and neighbors to implement actions that cover the major issues facing our neighborhood and surrounding area. The seven-member board of directors meets monthly and works closely with several resident-led committees to establish and accomplish goals of the association. Monthly board of directors meetings are typically held on the second Thursday of each month at Delaware Elementary beginning at 6:30 p.m. Meetings are open to the public. Meeting minutes are posted on this web site. BRNA quarterly neighborhood meetings are held on the second Thursday in January, April, July and October. Meetings typically feature guest speakers and all meetings are open to the public. Meeting information is published in the Brook Run News, posted on the web site, announced via e-mail and with neighborhood signage. Meeting minutes are posted on this web site. The BRNA newsletter, Brook Run News, is published quarterly and delivered to all Brook Run residents prior to the quarterly neighborhood meetings.
